Over the last few weeks there’s been lots of talk about new years resolutions. Now I’m not normally one for new years resolutions but whilst I was away I found myself thinking about a few things I wanted to achieve, or do more of in the new year. Living such a busy lifestyle, I often find I forget to think about, or make time for myself. So this year I’ve set out a few commandments and goals I want to achieve to make sure I live a much happier life. Some of them may sound completely ridiculous (like the selfie one!), but you’d be amazed what can make a huge difference to your daily attitude and confidence. So here are my 10 commandments for 2017…
To have a year long tan
Everyone knows that being tanned is a massive confidence boost. So after spending the majority of 2016 looking like a ghost, this year I’ve decided to pro-long my tan for as long as possible. Which can only mean one thing- more holidays! I don’t really like using fake tan or sunbeds, and to be honest, I don’t really have the time to do either, so I’m going to make the sure I visit lots of hot and sunny places to keep me bronzed all year round.
To attend more blogger events
Last year I attended my first few blogger events and since then I’ve met some really wonderful people. Most of which I would consider good friends now. So this year I want to attend more! I’ve found they’re such a great way to meet like-minded people and we all need more of those types of people in our lives.
To take more selfies
Ha, this is a bit of a silly one but whilst sitting in a coffee shop in Melbourne one morning, we realised I’d posted one selfie on Instagram all year. Yes, just ONE! For a blogger, that’s pretty unheard of! After thinking about the reasons why, I realised it was just because I think way too much about what my face looks like in photos. Following the conversation, we decided to post one and amazingly enough it got loads of likes and interaction- which in turn gave me a massive confidence boost. What was even nicer, was the fact I was pretty jet lagged and didn’t have much make up on either. So I need to stop thinking so much about what I look like and start posting more selfies.
To buy my first designer bag
If you’re a fellow blogger, you’ll probably agree that you can sometimes feel like there’s a lot of pressure on you to have all the latest designer clothes and accessories. In reality, that pressure is all in your head. However there’s nothing wrong with aspiring to have nice things. Even though I work at a designer fashion retailer, I don’t own any designer handbags, and that’s all down to the sheer fact that I simply cannot afford one. So this year, I’ve decided I’m going to work hard and save my pennies to buy myself my first designer bag.
To buy a house
On the subject of saving pennies, buying a house is at the top of our priorities this year. Although we might be itching to set off on our next big adventure, we’ve vowed not to book any holidays until we’ve bought a house.
To slay at work
Last year’s new years resolution was all about finding a new job. And sadly enough, the year before was the same! So this year I don’t plan to do anything but work hard and go above and beyond. We have some pretty big budgets this year and big budgets means big opportunities so I’m excited to get stuck in and do some really great work.
To finish the nuclear races
This is a bit of a strange one for me I must admit. Last year my boyfriend completed both the Tough Mudder and Nuclear Races challenges and after a few conversations with friends and fellow blogger Katie from Cakes vs Scales, we’ve decided that this year I’ll be running one of them with them! I used to love things like this as a kid but over the last few years I couldn’t think of anything worse. But a deal is a deal so bring on the mud. (Note to self: in future don’t make friends with fitness bloggers!)
To downsize my daily makeup bag
In preparation for my new designer bag, I’ve realised I need to start thinking about downsizing my everyday make up bag! As someone who does their make up on the train every morning, I’m guilty of lugging my whole make up bag to work with me. I don’t really wear much make up on a normal day, so we were shocked to realise the other week I was housing SEVEN lipsticks in my bag! I need to learn to only bring the essentials.
To wear heels more
This resolution is another one about confidence. It is a well known fact that wearing heels to work gives you a lot more authority and confidence. And I agree! So much so, I now hate going to work in flats. Which means, this year I now have a great excuse to buy lots of new shoes! Get me in some heels and I’m ready to take on the world.
To save a buy a new camera lens
My final resolution for the year is to do with my blog. Last year I was lucky enough to get myself a new Olympus Pen E-PL8 and after falling in love with it over my travels, I’ve decided I want to take my blog photography to the next level this year. As I start to visit more exciting places and work with some really cool brands I feel there is lots of room for improvement when it comes to my photos. Looks like I need to start saving for some new lenses!
