I was reading an article the other day about how millennials choose where they stay and travel to based on whether or not it’ll look good on their Instagram feeds. It sounds crazy right?! But deep down, I bet you’ve swiped left on a few hotels before because it didn’t look like something fresh off of @gypsea_lust‘s profile.
So what has that got to do with the hotel I’m about to introduce to you?
When I travel I want to stay somewhere that instantly becomes a home away from home. Somewhere that serves my favourite coffee, with interior design as good as my own (if not better!). It’ll have a duvet as fluffy as a marshmallow and it’ll be right in the centre of all the best shops and restaurants in the area. The new East London Hotel offers exactly that… and it looks pretty good on Instagram as well!
Located in the heart of Bethnal Green, The East London Hotel is London’s newest boutique hotel. With it’s official opening on the horizon, we were invited along to find out what all the excitement was about.
First impressions normally come when you walk in the door of the hotel. But as I called an Uber and pinpointed it’s location, I noticed the hotel was located along Cambridge Heath Road. If you’ve never been to London or Shoreditch before, Cambridge Heath Road is awesome so it’s location alone is good start. I’ll talk more about this in a bit…
As you walk through the hotel door you’re greeted by a huge cafe bar area and a number of self service check in stations. With assistance of the hotel staff you’re checked in and on your way up to your room within minutes. I mean, who even needs front desks anymore?!
It’s a pretty well known fact that city hotel rooms (especially in London & New York) are pretty small. While the rooms aren’t massive, the bedrooms at The East London Hotel are everything you need for a weekend break. With a giant window overlooking the V&A Museum and the many gardens and parks of Bethnal Green, the rooms are bright, spacious and quiet. The beds are so incredibly snug I didn’t want to get out of it, it was like sleeping in a giant marshmallow.
I always say you can tell a lot about a hotel from the toiletries they have in the rooms. And we were in luck because the hotel had Rituals! Ten points for you East London Hotel, Rituals is one of my faves.
The food and drink at The East London Hotel is something incredibly special. Every cocktail, spirit and even cake that’s served at their bar has some sort of wonderful story as to why it’s been chosen. With a lot of the beverages having being locally sourced, we spent all evening chatting to bar staff about all sorts of fascinating gins, wines and vodkas. So much so that we now have half of them on our shopping list.
Breakfast is simple but aligns so well with the hotel’s location. With bagels, overnight oats and avocado it’s the perfect menu to welcome anyone to East London. It even has Grind coffee!
I mentioned the location briefly at the start of this post but wanted to give a little more clarity around why I got so excited about it. If you’re visiting London from abroad, you’ll probably head straight to Oxford Street and the Kensington areas. However if you’re looking for somewhere that’s a little more trendy you want to head over to the Shoreditch, Hackney, Bethnal Green sort of areas. They’re the best places to go for quirky coffee shops, arty boutiques and hipster wine bars. Making the East London Hotels location perfect if you’re looking for a city break like this. Situationed only a few minuites walk from Bethnal Green and Cambridge Heath stations it’s so easy to get to and from when exploring the city.
